In 2022, we brought in a small group of Embden geese as guard birds for our property. We’ve enjoyed having them very much and in 2024 we expanded to include bloodlines from Metzer and from a breeder in Alberta.
Our original stock have started laying as early as at seven months of age, though typical laying starts at 2 years old for Embden geese.
Embden geese provide a good number of eggs per year and are also capable of brooding their own young. Their eggs are flavourful. This breed is also among the most common types of geese for eating.
In 2024 we began feeding soy free, certified organic feed after feeding certified organic in previous years.
